Section 2AAA Live Commentary & Updates!
Check back here on Saturday February 4th for a live streaming update of the action at the 2AAA Section Tournament! You can even view the stream on your portable devices and phones. Watch for more streams of Section 1AAA next weekend, and of course, STATE!
Why would anyone want to listen to one persons opinion of sections live? This might take the cake for the most insane dance team stalking yet. The you tube crazies have NOtHING on this. Wow. Talk about stirring up unnecessary drama.....sad. Why just section 1 and 2? Why not the lesser stacked sections? To cause problems that's why. Gross.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want to listen to what is being said then don't watch! H.S. sports do this sort of thing for various other events, in fact they are on TV!
DeleteBottom line this is Erin's blog, if you don't like what she has to say then don't come to the blog.
Section 1 is not competing this weekend! So that is why she will not be covering Section 1!
Why not cover sections 3 or 4? Are we not worthu of her "expertise"?
DeleteShe doesn't cover section 3 because she coaches a team in sections 3. She could not coach and cover the section at the same time. As for why she chose section 2 over 4, well in my opinion, people care more about what happens in section 2. Nothing against the teams in section 4 (they are amazing and we will probably see one or two of them in finals both days) but that section seems to be wrapped up (Blaine, Brainerd, and Tech all going for both). Sections is more of a guessing game for who is going to claim the last spot in both kick and jazz.
DeleteIt's a one person show, this is gonna be hard to pull off. I'm sure if there were multiple people and more resources she would choose to be at all sections. She can't be in multiple places at once unfortunately. Also, my expectations are not high because it's the first try. I'm sure there will be obsticles. I hope it goes well. Would be cool to see it in more places as the kinks get worked out.
DeleteReport the results at the end. Nobody needs to hear what you think should happen. No need for any live stream until awards if you ask me. I agree with the above.....this is getting out of hand. Perhaps you need a job or something to better occupy your time.....

DeleteErin does a great job, it's her blog and THAT gives her freedom to post whatever she wishes.
Typically blogs are something that are done in someone's spare time, I can assure you Erin more than likely has a JOB.
WOW, I am surprised by these comments. Erin, thank you for doing this, I, and I know many others, appreciate it. To the commentators above, have you been apart of any other high school sport? Because a majority of them have live coverage/reporting for ALL of their games. I think this is great. Erin seems to be very professional and would never post any negative comments about any team. And why wouldn't she report on the biggest sections? People care about what happens in these sections, especially 2AAA. If you don't like what she does for this sport, then don't be apart of it. No one makes you go to this website.

ReplyDeleteAnyone who understands the main difference between dance team and other sports would know that reporting live on a hockey, basketball, football game etc is completely different. There are scores and stats to report constantly that can't be adjusted by an opinion. I highly doubt judges are going to give erin scoring updates throughout the day so there is NOTHING to report other than her opinion. If she can find nothing but facts to report; number of dancers, song title, etc (basically things that can't be disputed) go ahead. However if its comments on the routines themselves and how she THINKS they were executed, that's wrong. I agree with the first 2 comments. A true coach would not do this.
ReplyDeleteWhy not wait and see what Erin reports rather than guessing and being negative from the get go? She is trying out new tecnology. Not everyone is able to attend and the outcome is of interest to a lot of fans. Erin has been doing a phenomenal job at reporting what she can and opening up a media source for the sport. I don't know Erin but I know she has proven herself as a coach. Unless you are offering something better don't criticize. All sports have commentators that offer a lot of opinions.

ReplyDeleteErin, I think this is a great idea and I look forward to checking in throughout the day. While I would love to go watch 2AAA, I have coaching commitments that will prevent me from doing so. Thanks for keeping us posted! We realize what you say is subjective and based on your opinion, but it will still be fun to hear, and to compare what is said to the actual results. For several years, the Wayzata team has had alumni dancers provide live commentary throughout the dances at their invitational, and this idea is along those same lines. Anyone who is not interested in hearing what is said simply doesn't need to listen! Thanks again, Erin, for all of the coverage you have given to dance team this season!

ReplyDeleteI am also surprised by the first two comments! I may no longer have a personal connection as a judge or coach, but I still enjoy being a part of the dance team community and watching it grow. I feel that Erin has done a nice job of maintaining this site for others to both enjoy and (unfortunately) criticize. The anonymity of the comments (similar to YouTube) is partly what stirs the drama. I'm guessing that if we all had to "claim" our comments, people would be much more careful about what they say, or say nothing at all.
ReplyDeleteMany people probably don't even realize that the Wayzata Invitational and 2AAA Sections is shown on live TV (provided you are within their local cable viewing area), and they too provide commentators who voice their own views of the routines as they are happening and after.
Good luck to all teams over the next two weeks as you complete at your section meets! I am looking forward to attending a couple of them in support of my coaching and judging friends. Hopefully, I will see many of your faces the morning(s)of state as I'll be working registration!!

Bwahhahah. Erin, you are right to do this coverage. Finally someone taking initiative to do it. When we were doing the coverage of dance team on MinnesotaSportsOnline.com, dance team had extremely high page views. I wish we could have offered more like you are doing. Like when when we would do top 10's. I would get my butt-kicked by a lot of people each week for numerous reasons. But in the end the turn out to the page views were awesome. People really loved the effort. We stopped doing it though because we would generally only get a small portion of the coaches sending in there top 10's (it was a coaches poll). So in the end we decided it wasn't the best system and dropped it. But I remember being at Xcel for state, it was one of my first years doing media coverage. I had the ability to do a live webstream (audio Only)and I tried it just on spur-of-the-moment. I only had the stream up a short time from state, but people loved it. I got a huge response from that. Of course I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that so I did get repremanded by the MSHSL. I didn't know better at the time. Bottom line is this Erin. I applaud that you're trying do this. Should fun. I probably won't agree with everything you say either. But who gives a crap :)

These people are getting so upset by this that it is actually funny. Do you really think she is going to say "Well team B looked horrible, there is no way they are making it to state"? NO! She is probably going to report facts "They had a mishook in straight line" or "A girl missed a kick". Even if she does give her opinion on routines, WHO CARES! Many people like listening to other peoples opinions on routines, especially when they come from a background like Erin's. Erin you are doing an outstanding job for this sport. Do not let anyone else say otherwise.
ReplyDeleteActually, other sports do have commentators for their games. Yes, the majority of it is just facts, but they also comment on certain plays, coaches, player performance, and team performance.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused why people are getting mad? If you do not want to hear people's opinion on routines, stay off this website and stay off the comment section of YouTube. It is honestly not that hard to do.
ReplyDeleteif you come to Erin's blog, more likely than not you are looking for some insight on the dance team world outside of scores and placements. If you are looking for a sight to ONLY show the placements of competitions i suggest you look at the MADT site. Thanks Erin for doing this! This site is a great place to come to to talk ALL dance team. Excited to see how the live stream works!
ReplyDeleteI'm confused, when the UDA competition airs on ESPN there are commentators discussing the action as it's happening and critique what they are seeing. They also give insight on the team sometimes. I'm glad Erin is brining this to MSHSL dance team. Dance is subjective, if you can't handle opinions, I highly suggest you find another sport.

ReplyDeleteEach to there own opinion just like Erin is entitled to her own! How is this any different than listening to live commentators with gymnastics and figure skating?!?! Even with the UDA/UCA coverage! In fact I have video from Burnsville Eagan Community TV from a dance team event where they have students giving their opinions on each as they compete...you don't hear people complaining about that. Their opinions are theirs and they are entitled to them! Props to Erin for what she is doing...finally dance team gets more recognition! I miss Matt's website, would be fun to have them both going!
ReplyDeleteI think this website is great. I think some people have to remember that not everyone lives in the cities, not everyone can just go and watch these sections. I think the coverage is wonderful for Minnesota dance teams. As a coach in greater Minnesota, we don't get to see AAA or a lot of AA teams unless we drive 2+ hours to see them. the only time I see them is state. So having some place to read about other classes is great. I was very sad when the youtube videos got taken down. as a small class A coach alot of my dancers and I am guessing other greater minnesota dancers don't get to see AA/AAA schools at all. I always send them to youtube to watch the big schools. they really look up to these teams and strive to be great like them. It's a shame that a lot of the videos had to be taken down. To me all this negative talk about this site and youtube is a step back in getting Minnesota dance team more recognition.

Thank you Erin for doing this!! Currently I'm sitting at home with an ice pack around my head due to getting my wisdom teeth out yesterday. If Erin wasn't doing this I'd be going insane not knowing what's going on at that competition! This website is also one of the greatest things that's happened to me!

ReplyDeleteI usually hate the way reporters talk about dance team in the newspapers, such as reporting on their makeup, costumes, or smiles or even calling it "danceline". I hope that Erin's comments may help open the reporting on dance team to things such as skill, technique, choreography, precision, etc. Good job Erin for trying this out and pushing the envelope.

ReplyDeleteIn reference to the comment about section 4 that Blaine,Tech and Brainerd are already going in both kick and jazz, I would like to issue a big shame on you!! You are what gives dance team and the judging a bad name. I happened to be at the meet and saw Champlin Park dance a flawless routine, Anoka's dance was pretty sharp, and one of my favorites was Andover which had a small fall at the beginning but the rest was amazing. I watched St Cloud Tech girls fall out of turns and fall during their walkovers, Blaine was sharp but the dance was unforgettable and their turns were slow..Brainerd and Duluth East were also good .You make the point that people have been saying over the years that it's not about the dance the day of the event that it's about who you are! So next time before you say it's in the bag, let the schools that at least hope upon hope that the judging is fair, or that they stand somewhat of a chance even though they weren't invited to Eastview as an "elite" team that maybe one day their dream of going to state could be a reality.
ReplyDeleteWell that was certainly never my intention to say anyone has anything "in the bag". I didn't use those terms and was careful to mention the long list of solid 4AAA teams that had a shot. I really don't believe you get credit for "who you are", if anything, this year I'm seeing many more flip flops of results based on who's good that day. I give our judges credit for that.
DeleteI wasn't there to see that things were chosen "right" at 4AAA, but that's why there is a large panel of judges to make that decision. I'm sure they picked the right people according to the scoresheet. Going to a showcase or not has nothing to do with it and I firmly believe from my own experience that everyone gets a fair chance in front of the judges, history or no.
Erin, I was referring to the comment made by someone that you were doing 2AAA because 4AAA was already decided. I have appreciated all the insite you have given and you did call out some of the teams that had a shot. I appreciate the forum and would like to see a few new AAA teams get to state... Thanks for the work you are doing
ReplyDeleteAfter reading that comment you are referring to, I feel like you took it the wrong way. That person was inferring why she did not go to 4AAA, they stated "in their opinion". Also, yes the bigger schools are more known, but that does not mean they do not work their butts off to get that recognition. They put in just as much work as any other team. Just because the "favorites" went to state again does not mean you need to bash them for their talent. And also, if you have read the other blog post on this sight, you would know Eastview did not select only the "elite" teams for their showcase. They invited their friends who happen to be accomplished teams, but if a team asked to come to the showcase, then they allowed them. Brainerd, Blaine, and Tech earned their right to state, it was not handed to them.
